Engineering Admission Process 2020 in Maharashtra

The AY 2020 admission process for Engineering in Maharashtra has been delayed till October owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the entrance exams were postponed as well, resulting in the delayed admission process. Thus, students need to wait patiently to appear for these entrance exams and then continue with their admission process. 

The MHT CET 2020 exam has been postponed and the DTE is yet to announce the official exam dates and any further information regarding the admission process. The postponed MHT CET exam has led to a delay in the commencement of the online registrations for the Centralised Admission Process (CAP), payment of registration fee, releasing registered candidates’ list, document verification, and publication of provisional merit list.

The B.E. Maharashtra admission procedure takes place in various stages. All the eligible students who have registered for Common Admission Process or CAP have to go through these stages. The first stage is preparing the merit list of candidates from different categories. This involves assigning merit numbers to the registered candidates based on their score in MHT CET or JEE Main. Post the displaying of merit list comes the next stage of the Centralized Counselling Process. All the candidates who have appeared in the merit list are eligible for the Centralized Counselling Process and seat allotment. It involves the following stages: -

  • Maharashtra CAP Online Application Form submission
  • Document Verification at Facilitation Centres
  • Display of Provisional and Final Merit Lists

Engineering Entrance Exam Details

Engineering colleges in India have their specific criteria regarding Entrance exams for B. E. admissions. Some colleges have their own entrance exams while others consider the scores in the entrance exams conducted by DTE. Eligibility Criteria for B. E. Admissions 2020 in Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria for Maharashtra State Candidates/ Jammu & Kashmir Migrant Candidates/ All India Candidates (AI)

  1. The aspirant should be an Indian National
  2. Should have passed HSC or its equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology or Technical Vocational subjects.
  3. Should have obtained at least 50% marks (at least 45% marks, in case of Backward class categories and Persons with Disability candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only) in the above subjects taken together.
  4. Furthermore, the candidate should have appeared in all the subjects in CET and should obtain non zero scores in CET conducted by the Competent Authority.
  5. Students whose parents are domiciled in Maharashtra are also eligible for admission by providing their domicile certificate during the admission procedure.
  6. Students with Diploma in Engineering and Technology need to pass the exam with at least 50% marks (at least 45 % marks, in case of Backward class categories and Persons with Disability candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only) to take admission through B.E. lateral entry. 
  7. Obtained non-zero score in MHT CET 2020 OR JEE(Main).

 

Documents Required for Bachelor of Engineering Admission in Maharashtra

For seeking B.E. admissions in Maharashtra, students need to have the following documents ready: -

  • Transfer Certificate (TC)or School Leaving Certificate
  • HSC Mark Sheet or Pass Certificate
  • SSC Mark Sheet or Pass Certificate
  • MHT CET or JEE Main Score Card/ Rank Card
  • Domicile Certificate (if applicable)
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Physical Disability Certificate (Only for PH Category)

BE Admission Reservation Policy

66% of seats for B.E. programs in Maharashtra are reserved for Backward or reserved categories. Some seats are also reserved for persons with Disability Candidates, sons/daughters of Defence service personnel, EWS candidates, orphan candidates, and female students. The remaining seats are available for open or general category students. Following is the detailed distribution of seats based on these categories.

Total 66% of seats are reserved and here is the distribution-

  • Scheduled Castes and Schedule caste converts to Buddhism (SC) - 13.0%
  • Schedule Tribes (ST)- 7.0%
  • Vimukta Jati (VJ)/De notified Tribes (DT) (NTA)- 3.0%
  • Nomadic Tribes 1 (NTB)- 2.5 %
  • Nomadic Tribes 2 (NTC)- 3.5%
  • Nomadic Tribes 3 (NTD)- 2.0%
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC)- 19.0%
  • Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC)- 16.0%

Other reservation criteria percentage-

  • Sons/daughters of Defence service personnel- 5% seats
  • Persons with Disability Candidates- 5% seats
  • Reservation for EWS (Economically Weaker Section) Candidate- 10% seats
  • Reservations for Orphan Candidates - 1% seats
  • Female candidates- 30% seats

The selection process for B.E. 2020 admissions in Maharashtra includes the following stages-

  • Filling and confirmation of Online Option Form
  • Display of Provisional merit list and final allotment
  • CAP Round I, Round II and Round III
