Team predators of D Y Patil College of engineering Akurdi has won runner up the national level championship in prestigious mBAJA SAE India 2019 competition held at Asia’s biggest auto testing track at Pithampur, Indore in Madhya Pradesh on January 26-27, 2019.
BAJA Team of DYPCOE, expert opinion in TOI (23rd October 2018)
We are budding engineers of D Y Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi, who have the passion and the will to help the society and to contribute to make the youth of our country employable. We participate in global motorsport competitions, viz. Baja and supra which enable us to simulate real world engineering problems. We design, manufacture and build racing vehicles. We, the passionate minds of D Y Patil innovate and develop the best of our knowledge.
We have been participating in these competitions since last 10 years, transferring knowledge and legacy, along with having a very vivid spectrum of history. The most highlighting of them were when our Baja team, TEAM PREDATORS RACING, stood AIR 1st among 388 teams with a trendsetting pole position in 2018. Also, the same team stood AIR 2nd in 2015. Furthermore, our Baja team took the heat a notch above by participating at international baja at California, USA, where they grabbed 12th best design, and ranked 35th across the globe. Doing well at Baja events equals having companies lined up for the respective engineering students during their college placements. Activities like these mean real money, real hardwork, real risk and real victory. We have teammates from both the teams placed in various MNCs. The reason behind this was found to be the immense exposure that the students received towards the technical and management related real life engineering applications through these competitions, helping them to make themselves industry ready.
Team predators of D Y Patil College of engineering Akurdi has won the national level championship in prestigious mBAJA SAE India 2018 competition held at Asia’s biggest auto testing track at Pithampur, Indore in Madhya Pradesh on January 28, 2018. This winning team received prize money of Rs. 3 Lakhs.
The team BAJA has been participating since last 10 years and was runners up in 2015. The team also participated in International SAE BAJA 2017 at LA, California USA. The national SAE BAJA competition was organized by Mahindra and Mahindra and in all 200 teams from various technical institutes across the country had participated in this competition. The team was led by Captain Shubham Sutar and Vice captain Aditya Gawale under the guidance of Dr. D. R. Panchagade HOD, Mechanical, Prof. Sunil Patil Faculty Advisor.
SAE BAJA 2018 Team was financially supported by the management of Dr. D. Y Patil Educational Complex, Akurdi and got valuable guidance from Hon. Shri. Satej D. Patil (Chairman), Hon. Col. S.K. Joshi (Campus Director) , Dr. B. S. Balapgol (Principal), Dr. Mrs. P. Malathi (Vice Principal and Dr. D. R. Panchagade, HOD Mechanical.

The SUPRA SAE INDIA is a forthcoming competition which presents the Under Graduate Students the task of designing, modeling and fabricating a formula type racing car.
As an event that challenges young minds to compete as teams in designing a Formula category vehicle, there is no other event like this in the country. To develop a vehicle consisting of various sub systems, meeting engineering specifications, timelines and above all meeting safety standards is a challenge not for the faint hearted. And then making the rubber hit the road at a premium race track under gazing eyes of experienced technical experts and other enthusiasts is a thrill not just for the participants, but for the mobility community at large

The Championship is basically to design and fabricate a Go-Kart in extremely low budget followed by a Championship of the selected teams. This Championship will consist of several tests and tasks to be performed by the vehicle and qualifying the same will decide their existence in the Championship. All the participating teams will be having creativity and innovation flexibility with few restrictions mentioned in the Rule Book. The Championship gives teams the chance to demonstrate and prove both their creativity and their engineering skills in comparison to the teams from other Universities across the world.

Mechanical engineering is versatile and evergreen branch of engineering. Mechanical engineer can work in various specialized area like automotive system, aerospace engineering, design engineering, dynamic system and control, power plant engineering, etc. and most importantly in software field also.
Department has well qualified and dedicated faculties with well developed laboratories. We impart quality engineering education through sound theoretical knowledge, hands on laboratory as well as computational skill and exposure to recent technologies by visiting industries.
We are continuously arranging seminars on current trends related with mechanical engineering along with external specialized speakers. Students are trained in various Industry related software’s like CATIA, Ansys etc., to take competitive advantage and for better job opportunities.
We provide opportunities for students to participate in various technical events/competitions like BAJA SAE International, Supra, International GoKART Championship, National level Auto Expo, Pune and promote to work as a member of team on multi disciplinary projects. Times to time students are guided by faculty through guardian faculty mentoring scheme, to achieve academic and personal excellence.

Mechanical Engineering Department is established since the inception of the college in 1984. Department consists of highly dedicated, motivated, qualified and competent faculty. The department possesses state of the art laboratories catering to the needs of the students and research scholars. Laboratories are modernized from time to time through the funds received under various Research Proposals and MODROB schemes of A.I.C.T.E and University of Pune. Till date, Department has received various grants worth Rupees sixty five lakhs. Considerable attention is being given in the Planning, setting up and up gradation of laboratories to make them of global standards and to provide excellent ambience and facilities to the students.
The Department supports Innovative Methodology for Development of teaching skills for newly recruited teachers for practicing an efficient and effective Teaching Learning Process through our Learning Resource Centre. Since our college is located in the Industrial Belt of Major Machine tools and Automobile industries, Industry-Institute interaction is well established. The Department has established excellent rapport with its alumni and contributed towards formation of strong alumni association.
We are proud to state that our Department is running Center of Excellence which conducts number of value added courses such as Ansys, Catia, Hypermesh, 3DPLM, Autodesk, MatLab, Abaqus, Six Sigma, SEED INFOTECH and Japanese Language for the knowledge and skills up gradation of the students to cater the need of current industrial scenario.
